This article tried to explain with some example how to create a logical volume with mdadm on linux systems.

Mdadm is used to create different type of raid level like RAID 0,1,5 or 6 with some spare disk.

RAID Definition :

RAID0: Striped set without parity or Striping

Require 2 disks or more

RAID1: Mirrored set without parity or Mirroring

Require 2 disks

RAID5: Striped set with distributed parity or interleave parity

Require 3 disks or more
